Portrait of Dolge Orlick

Dolge Orlick

Joe Gargery's journeyman blacksmith, a brooding and resentful figure.

From "Great Expectations" by Dickens, Charles

Core Belief

"The world is unfair, and those who are weak and powerless are destined to be exploited."

Worldview

Orlick sees the world as a place of injustice and oppression, where the strong prey on the weak and where violence is the only way to get ahead.

Personality

Orlick is a surly, resentful, and violent man. He is envious of Pip and Biddy and harbors a deep-seated anger towards those who he believes have wronged him. He is prone to brooding and acting on his impulses.

In Their Own Words

"“Now, master! Sure you’re not a-going to favour only one of us. If Young Pip has a half-holiday, do as much for Old Orlick.”"
"“You’re a foul shrew, Mother Gargery,” growled the journeyman. “If that makes a judge of rogues, you ought to be a good’un.”"
"“I’m a-going to have your life!”"
