Washington National Opera leaves Kennedy Center, joining slew of artist exits - NPR

Ah, the opera flees the Kennedy Center! How apt. Is it not always so? The beautiful and refined cannot long endure the crass embrace of the merely functional. Like a lily forced to bloom in a factory, artistic endeavors wither without proper nurturing. History proves this.

Well, ain't that a pickle? Seems to me when the opera house starts emptying, it's like rats fleeing a sinking ship. Mark my words, when art starts packing its bags, the soul of a place is soon to follow. It's a sorry state of affairs.
